About Us

Mission:

We are the Trauma Association of Canada, a multi-disciplinary Society of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Who:

Strive to improve the quality of care provided to the injured patient, including pre-hospital management and transport, acute care hospitalization, and reintegration into society,
support, conduct, and apply basic science, clinical and outcome research related to trauma,

Encourage effective and efficient use of health care resources in the delivery of trauma care, and
foster professional and community education in the field of injury prevention and in the care of the injured patient.

For physicians and surgeons, allied health care professionals and the Canadian community at large;

In order to reduce the incidence of injury, ensure optimal care of the injured patient, and provide leadership in collaboration with other health care providers, agencies, and individuals.

Objectives:

Hold annual scientific meetings.
Publish a newsletter twice annually.
Ensure the publication of annual meeting papers.
Organize postgraduate courses - local, regional, and national.
Facilitate development and maintenance of a National Trauma Registry.
Promote basic science and clinical trauma research.
Facilitate and participate in public education on injury prevention.
Facilitate, develop, and participate in community disaster response planning.
Develop guidelines for, and participate in accreditation/verification of Trauma Centres.
Advocate governments to implement legislation designed to decrease the incidence of trauma.
