History

In 1978 some Italian fans microchirurgica technology still in its infancy, met in Brescia, at the urging of Professor Giorgio Brunelli, leader of this discipline in Italy (the Italian first replanting of limb amputo executed by Brunelli dates back to 1973).

At this meeting the participants were officially the Italian Club of Microsurgery in order to promote the dissemination of Italy microsurgical techniques.

After a few years, and more specifically in 1981, the Italian club is endowed of a new statute and regulation, and was founded a real national company: The Italian Society of Microsurgery.

The first biennial 1982-1983 board of directors was composed of President Prof. G. Brunelli, Past-president Prof. E. Ancona; Next President Prof. A. Gaspari, Secretary Dr. G. Rigotti; Directors: Prof. A. Azzolini, Dr. U. Fox, Dr. E. Galletti, Dr. A. Gilbert, Dr. G. Pilla, Prof. B. Tesauro, Treasurer Dr. G. Conti, Secretary to the President Dr. A. Vigasio.

The company looking out for education and training activities already exist (the Italian Course Theoretical Practical Microsurgery which was held in Brescia since 1974 has formatola most of Microsurgery Italiani) held a national congress every year by joining surgeons from several disparate disciplines but the common interest of an innovative technique that opened unexpected horizons. In Congress SIM unlike many other National Societies of other specialties, the clinical experience have always been accompanied by a necessary and important series of experimental research. In parallel with the National Congress were organized numerous symposia Extraordinary.

The importance of the Italian Society in the international scene was confirmed by joint meetings with other National Societies (eg The Joint Congress of the French with GAM in 1984 in Gardone Riviera). All'Italia was also given the honor of the International Bureau (Professor G. Brunelli was elected President of The International Microsurgical Society in 1985) by organizing a World Congress which was held in Brescia in 1986.

The nascent European Federation of Societies of Microsurgery no accident held its first congress in Rome in 1992.
