THE SCOLIOSIS ASSOCIATION, INC.
The Scoliosis Association, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer non-medical organization. Since 1974, we have been helping those with scoliosis by providing information and having support groups and information lines. We have a variety of ways by which you can get in contact with us as shown throughout our website. Additionally, you may have a support group or information hotline in your area. Please go to our support page to find the list of support groups or information lines. There are 54 active chapters (support groups) at this time. Support groups meet periodically, have rap sessions for the interchange of information and, often, guest speakers. A question and answer period for general questions is usually a part of the meeting. If you don't find a support group in your area and would like to start one, let us know. We'll give all the help possible to get you started
BACKTALK
We also provide a periodical, BACKTALK, to members, which is printed three or four times a year. BACKTALK is written by medical professionals and patients. There are "state-of-the art" articles on current diagnosis or management and treatment of scoliosis. The "Ask the Doctor" column contains questions from readers and answers from doctors. There usually is a "My Story" article in which a patient tells their experience with scoliosis. A source for "Pen Pals" is given as well as information about future meetings of support groups.
THE SCOLIOSIS ASSOCIATION, INC. is a support and information organization open to all. The General public, medical profession and many businesses belong and support the efforts of the Scoliosis Association, Inc. Our organization is led by its Board of Directors. Every two years a meeting of its Governing Board is held at which the presidents of chapters, chapter delegates, and members of the Board of Directors elect those who will lead us for the next two years.
RESEARCH
The Scoliosis Association, Inc. furthers research into the causes of scoliosis through two projects. PLEASE AID AND SPEED THE EFFORTS OF RESEARCHERS BY MAKING A DONATION TO THESE FUNDS.
1. THE RESEARCH ENDOWMENT FUND - We have attained a goal of $100,000. The annual interest is annually donated for research into the causes and treatment of scoliosis.
2. THE ANNUAL RESEARCH FUND - We support the work of the Scoliosis Research Society from funds donated each year to this organization of medical professionals.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
To serve as a National Information and Support Network.
To promote and facilitate contacts among scoliosis and other spinal disorder patients and their families.
To provide encouragement and support for scoliosis and other spinal disorder patients and their families.
To offer non-medical advice, to dispense information and literature, to educate patients, their families and the general public as to the nature of scoliosis and other spinal disorders.
To raise funds for research into scoliosis and other spinal disorders.
To assist in the formation of local chapters of the Association.
To foster scoliosis and spinal screening programs in the schools.
To promote public awareness on national, international and local levels of the goals and objectives of the Scoliosis Association, Inc.
To accomplish any other activities set forth in and not inconsistent with the Certificate of Incorporation of the Association.
