Oncology Club: Meeting Your Needs in a Changing World

For almost 10 years, the Oncology Club has been guided by a motivating purpose: to improve cancer care and prevention. The Oncology Club has translated that commitment to undertake actions by delivering an increasing array of programs that help medical members improve their understanding of cancer management for better care of people with cancer. You already know the Oncology Club for its SAARC Oncology Conference in 2001. But all of you may not be aware of the high-quality initiatives the Oncology Club along with many other has introduced in the last 9 years to help you continue to meet the professional challenges posed by rapid changes in science, technology and treatment delivery system.

Oncology Club Education efforts guided by the education of oncologist in specific areas of educational need, consensus meetings, disease management & workshops in different aspects of oncology.
Clinical Practice Guideline meeting which help oncologist to determine the most effective treatments.
Awareness Campaign, for people at large which advances the interests and concerns of public and their patients in the healthcare environment. This helps early diagnosis.
Encourages prevention of cancer by adopting better life style, avoiding tobacco, pan, zarda, gul etc..

The Oncology Club is a platform for all oncologists, doctors at home and non-resident abroad, cancer survivors, pharmaceutical industries, philanthropists and any one who intend to fight cancer. The Oncology club is working since 1998 mainly to update knowledge of our oncologists as well as to create public awareness so that prevention, early diagnosis and proper treatment may cure many of our cancer patients or would be patients.

While the updating of the knowledge of the oncologists is a satisfactory ongoing process everywhere, here in Bangladesh, the birthplace of SAARC, the need for further intense anticancer activities e.g. public awareness and prevention activities against cancer is being felt.

So after prolonged contemplations, we along with others formed an enlarged joint platform to fight the menace of cancer on 26th July named:

The Federation of Anti-cancer Activists of Bangladesh (FACAB).

This federation was formed with the presence of more than forty-three different organizations directly involved in the anti-cancer campaigns in Bangladesh, TV & print media, some dignitaries and industrialists including Cancer Soceity of Bangladesh.
