IFFAS Online is a service of the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies, an organization that grew out of increased collaboration among international foot and ankle societies. Made up of regional foot and ankle organizations from around the world, its membership is restricted to medical doctors who specialize in foot and ankle surgery.

Organizational Aims - Excluding any social, political, religious or racial segregation, the organization aims to:

• Initiate, promote and develop international scientific relations between students of the foot.
• Develop and spread knowledge about all aspects of anatomy, physiology and pathology of the foot.
• Represent this branch of the medical science and profession on an international scale.

Triennial Scientific Meetings - The Federation held its founding meeting in October 1999 in Kyoto, Japan, at the triennial meeting of the College International de Medecine et Chirurgie du Pied, an international foot and ankle society which had been founded in 1958.

The 2002 meeting was held in San Francisco, California, USA and the 2005 meeting was held in Naples, Italy. The Third Triennial Meeting will be September 18-20, 2008 in Costa do Sauipe, Bahia, Brazil. In 2011, the meeting site will rotate to Asia.

Organization - Organized on a regional rather than national basis, IFFAS consists of four regional organizations: the Asian Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the European Foot and Ankle Society, the Latin American Federation and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. IFFAS maintains a secretariat in Rosemont, Illinois, USA.
