The mission of the GRECMIP (Group of Search and Study in Mini-Invasive Surgery of the foot and of the ankle), composed of orthopaedic surgeons who possess the desire to collect, evaluate and to validate all the Mini-Invasive techniques used in the surgery of the foot and the ankle, is to establish the means of making it possible to decrease the rate of morbidity of the surgical outcomes by using new and validated methods such as Arthroscopic approaches, percutaneous surgery or computer-assisted surgery.

History

GRECMIP was founded because of the meeting with the leaders of the various aspects of the Mini-Invasive Surgery of the Foot and the Ankle:
Dr DE PRADO (Spain) and Dr S. ISHAM (USA) for the Percutaneous Surgery, Dr N. VANDIJK (NL) for the Arthroscopy and Dr RICHTER (DE) for the Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS).

The Computer Assisted Surgery helps the surgeon to define and then to execute an operating and surgical procedure, helped with data from imaging process.

CAS provides significant advantages over traditional surgical techniques, including more accurate diagnostic capabilities before and during surgery; better visualization and more precise targeting of anatomic sites; and more efficient and less invasive surgical procedure. These advantages translate into better patient outcomes, reduced complications, and an overall reduction in patient morbidity.

The first ACL systems appeared at the beginning of the nineties, mainly in the field of the neurosurgery. In 1992, it left the first world prototype of ACL Surgery, the first patient was operated with this technique in 1994.

September 2002 in Bordeaux, the GRECMIP (Group of Search and Study in Mini-Invasive Surgery of the foot and of the ankle) was founded by Dr Christophe DE LAVIGNE (Mérignac), Dr Stéphane GUILLO (Mérignac) and Dr Olivier LAFFENETRE (Bordeaux). Their goal is to develop and to promote this surgical approach and to apply it to all endoscopic procedures, or to the traditional surgery, without limiting it to the only percutaneous surgery.

The GRECMIP today:

President: Dr Christophe de Lavigne (CCOS, Mérignac)
Vice President: Dr Olivier Laffenêtre (CHU Pellegrin, Bordeaux)
Treasurer: Dr Stéphane Guillo (CCOS, Mérignac)
Secretary: Dr Stéphane Jambou (CCOS, Mérignac)
