Having the chance to preside over the destiny of the SOFCOT brings both a certain pride but also responsibilities that are broader than those of the French Society of Orthopedic Surgeons a handful of isolated from the French Society of Surgery there are four ninety years in 1918. The French Society of Orthopedics, took in 1968, fifty years ago, its current name SOFCOT.

On reflection these two dates are not neutral and responsive to the aspirations of each changing moment: after the first war in 1918, then this period of questioning called in the flurry of time "revolution" but that the term "events of May 68" applies more. One wonders if we do not live today a period as vital as the first two we have just mentioned. Then remember the early years two miles as a new step as decisive as any previous providing development and evaluation. In the changing society in which we, our learned societies are increasingly involved in the professional aspect and there is far to the chagrin of our seniors, but also some of our colleagues concentrated on the daily care and this is very commendable, from simply reporting the Academic Society for Science evolution through clinical experiences. Fortunately this remains and should continue to grow, to be recognized beyond our hexagon yet safe despite the changes and challenges. The SOFCOT fvorisant in the creation of the College and the Union was prepared to meet current demands. Structural changes made by JY Nordin gave an appropriate tool to constraints of time. We find in our society the scientific with the Academy which the most obvious is that Congress in November remains attractive, the Academy must also meet, sometimes even create work to obtain scientific data on which best practices can be found without delay texts coercive or inappropriate. The College is not only responsible for training but also participates with the various components of the SOFCOT training whose law policy should define the fall once again play the game but it must be understand that the legislature it easier to control the EPP (and again, with whom?) to organize the daily CME particularly for specialists. The new entity is ORTHORISQ, is a response to the concern of quality factor of medical practice today. In all these battles, to exert a real vigilance in particular for the defense of surgery, the Union fully justified his membership of this body formed in the SOFCOT. The dynamism of this package is maintained by the richness of the development of Societies Daughters and Partners.

The roles are defined is the entity that has SOFCOT remain the focal point for the bodies, the media, other links health professionals: general practitioners, specialists, para medical ..., other health partners Industrial, insurance, mutual courts ... This provides more clarity, credibility and strength for our population of 3,000 orthopedic surgeons.

Another aspect of this force and the role that we play on the board of health is the increasing development of our business. Two elements are involved: technical progress: osteosynthesis and arthroplasties, including those of the surgical technique itself: mini-invasive arthroscopy, microsurgery, navigation ... The second point is demographic with longer life our compatriots who no longer understand that their lives could be disrupted by functional problems. We have seen on the hatch and specialties all have their legitimacy: our societies Girls and Partners. Their problems that appear specific individuals and activities are all part of the whole discipline. If they must of course be documented by specialty on requests and responses must go through the same SOFCOT that can integrate and coordinate similar requests from different origins. These companies Daughters and Partners must be the engines of our discipline but we must ensure group cohesion and coordination. This point well understood by our entire community must require constant vigilance.
The office of the SOFCOT, its Secretary General, your President have continued this year to work in this direction in conditions which did not seem easy. It must obviously put each event at his level. It was the first accidental and tragic loss of our friend Frantz Langlais. He was perfectly prepared for his Presidency that it should be combined with that of EFORT with conviction and the will to make us understand that the path of a strong SOFCOT necessarily by its massive presence in the activities of the EFORT . As such, the Congress of Nice was demonstrative and firm and determined action by Thierry Bégué and sustained good number of us have helped to honor the memory and passion for Frantz. But this does not remain a flash in the pan can do even better and Vienna profile!
Placed at the Presidency College by Jean-Michel Thomine to which I say publicly my gratitude and affection SOFCOT home does not completely unknown to me, supported by the boundless energy of Jacques Duparc I thank again accepted by Denis Huten with whom I just spent a year rich and dense, I left the College and the office told me the Presidency of the SOFCOT.
Our action took over as driver the desire to maintain our Company in the race today. To be an actor must exist and that is why it is we appeared fundamental, rather than confront us, to find relationships "normal" with our key interlocutors.

Front row should improve relations with particularly trace HAS and operating clear unambiguous even if the methods that are not always comply with our wishes. And multiple meetings at the highest level have tried to make our voice heard. The Congress also includes a joint meeting HAS-SOFCOT whose purpose is to share and show our concerns and our expectations and those of our patients but also to take stock of work done in collaboration. All these actions can not succeed without the action of each. But an office also is active it can not carry out all investigations, analysis ... It is often appealed to our members to participate in work, meetings where our presence is not neutral and it must be remembered that these "expert" to simple, engage not only the "chosen" but also our Company. It is important that these functions we felt the representative of our entire community regardless of our personal choices to keep only positions that preserve our patients, the evolution of our discipline and its future progress. We should be in these meetings pedagogy to be heard and understood. In this spirit we drafted a charter of the expert to recall our duties and importance of this mission.

Our credibility and our strength can not be strengthened by developing evaluation. If the principle of it is now admitted he still has to adapt to our specialty. Indeed there is a difference between assessing a drug whose life is a few hours or days and a total hip prosthesis which remains in place twenty years. We must develop methods to assess more suited to our practice which is not to challenge the notion of evaluation. We need reports that show favorable results or not during the life of our implants with corrective action. The Register of Prosthetics should participate in the review, flight still too timid. Do not accept the principle methodologies that are not appropriate for our practice but let their imagination and professionalism it is in the development and progress of our discipline that could be sterilized by coaching unsuitable n ' not incorporating the concept of evolution, we have experienced recently.

These problems are sometimes made more acute in our relationships with industry that may appear, seen from the outside or on the occasion of facts widely publicized as unhealthy. Again do not let distort the generality some situations, certainly reprehensible, but marginal. We need industry, they need surgeons to optimize service to our patients. The relationship must be clear and dominated by two factors. On the one hand, and we have already said, the development of implants or equipment shall be following protocols can be evaluated and, even if an idea is great and there was, therefore needs assessment departure to be part of the project itself. On the other pro rata share of the work done and the market price of a contract must be clearly defined in terms of compensation. An idea in the medical field has at least as valuable as any other! Stop stigmatizing, seem offended any talk of retribution. More clarity and transparency, a term in vogue, we must rid ambiguous relationship harmful to the dynamism and bring back thoughts open to all kinds of practices. We have tried, not without difficulty, to define some general rules that can serve as a framework for our relations.

Here, drawn in broad strokes, some ideas that led our action. Much remains to be done, the succession is assured. The personality of each can make progress more or less the different chapters, the current loading also shape the rhythms. But our survival, our existence, our effectiveness depends on the concerted action of our various components. Our credibility can not ignore the same assessment of whether it should be adapted in its methodology. Contractualisons clearly with our partners both institutional and industrial. On this basis we can continue to wish long life and good SOFCOT our Congress at all.
