About US
We are a scientific group that has the aim to establish research of locked implants for osteosynthesis and endoprosthesis and to develop these further.
The group was founded on the 8th of February, 2005 in Hamburg/ Germany, initiated by Professor Dr. D. Wolter.
A group of orthopedic surgeons, engineers and other scientists have established the organization named awiso®, a working group on locked osteosynthesis.
Angular stable – or locked – fittings of osteosynthesis implants (plates and nails) and the anchoring of endoprosthesis are gained by means of form, force and material. The construction principle of a locked osteosynthesis can often be found in nature and gaines its advantages by the broad transmission of forces. Force overload – as it is often found in the punctual force transmission of regular implants – can be minimized.
A locked osteosynthesis shows no shift between any of its components under force. By that, it is possible to construct a stable osteosynthesis with no adhesive friction forces between plate and bone. Since more than 20 years, this principle is used for spinal implants since more than 15 years also in internal fixator systems. This lead to a clear improvement in clinical results.

Angular Stability – Indispensable in Osteosynthesis,
1st Inter Congress,
Hamburg, Germany
Jul 10 - 11 2009
Dear Colleagues,
on behalf of the free working group on locked Osteosynthesis (freie Arbeitsgemeinschaft winkelstabile Osteosynthese e.V.) we cordially invite you to participate in the 1ST International Congress of awiso®, which will be held in Hamburg from July 10th to 11th 2009.
Themed “Angular Stability – Indispensable in Osteosynthesis” we want to exchange our experiences and research studies now at international level for the first time. There can be no doubt that Angular Stability has opened new horizons in the fracture treatment during the last years and by now can be considered as indipensable in osteosynthesis. Thus, the angle-stable systems have put new impulses in particular in the care of joint fractures and metaphysis comminuted fractures as well as in the care of osteoporotic bones and periprosthetic fractures. Moreover, the more stable fixation generally allows an early-functional aftercare and earlier mobilisation of the affected extremity.
Despite the present success, some challenges still wait for us to speed up the research and the practise in the area of Angular Stability. Thus, with this congress we would like to bring together orthopedic and trauma surgeons, engineers and other scientists from all over the world to discuss their experiences and research and to exchange recent developments and findings in the field of angle-stable osteosynthesis. For this reason, there will be enough space beside the scientific programme for talks and discussions as well.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Hamburg.
