President, AACPDM
Welcome to the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine
Established in 1947, the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) is a non-profit organization that fosters and stimulates medical professional education, research, and interest in the understanding of cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities, and in improving the care and rehabilitation of affected persons.
The AACPDM began as a Medical Society founded by a diverse group of physicians involved in the care of children with developmental disorders. The role of allied health professionals in pediatric care and habilitation at that time was pervasive and important, but clearly less prominent from a scientific and leadership standpoint. Over the years, many of the allied health professions have steadily increased their entry educational requirements and/or post-professional advancement opportunities with a concurrent increase in their level of participation in our and other societies, as well as in clinical and scientific milieus. Therapists (physical, occupational and now speech), nurses, and other non-physician professionals (psychologists, biomechanists, engineers, etc) have become increasingly integral and valuable contributors to the AACPDM membership.
As President of the AACPDM, I will strive to uphold the mission of the AACPDM. Please take a look at the site to review our various educational and research opportunities that are available for you or your colleagues. If you have any questions, please contact the AACPDM office.
